Chapter 616: Setting an Example
Chapter 616: Setting an Example
However, not everyone was as simple as these ordinary survivors.
In another part of the market, a group of men stood together, their gazes fixed on Chu Miao’s stall.
Unlike the others, their clothes were relatively clean, and their posture carried a certain confidence.
Clearly, they weren’t ordinary survivors.
"They’re selling their stuff too cheap." One of them said, narrowing his eyes.
"They’re going to disrupt the market at this rate." Another one added.
"And drawing unnecessary attention to this place."
The leader of the group remained silent for a moment before speaking.
"Go test them."
"How?" one of his subordinates asked.
The leader smirked faintly.
"Buy something... then create a problem."
A few of them immediately understood and nodded.
Humans were like this. When their interests were threatened, they didn’t care that Chu Miao and the others were basically doing charity.
They only cared that the benefits they were getting from selling things too expensive were going to disappear.
Chu Miao and the others were unaware of this scheme, but even if they knew, they wouldn’t care. After all, they were genuinely helping and if these people didn’t want help, they could just go back to the sect.
It wasn’t like they had nothing better to do.
Moreover, no one in the market was their match in strength, so they weren’t worried about trouble.
This was also why they didn’t bother using their divine sense to listen to everything going on around them.
Back at the stall, business was booming.
People lined up patiently, afraid that if they caused trouble, they would be chased away.
The orderliness was almost surprising.
But that peace didn’t last long.
A man suddenly stepped forward, placing a pouch of crystal cores on the table.
"I want ten bottles of water and five kilograms of rice." he said loudly as if afraid that others won’t hear him.
The cultivator at the stall glanced at the pouch briefly before speaking.
"Not enough."
"What do you mean not enough?" the man frowned.
"You have two hundred crystal cores. That’s enough for four half-liter bottles of water and nothing else." the cultivator replied calmly.
The man’s expression darkened.
"Are you saying I can’t afford it?"
"I am saying you don’t have enough payment." the cultivator repeated, his tone unchanged.
A few people nearby began to sense something was off and quietly stepped back.
The man suddenly slammed his hand on the table.
"Then give me what I can afford!" he snapped.
The cultivator nodded and began to prepare the items.
But just as he was about to hand them over, the man suddenly grabbed the bag and tried to pull it away without completing the exchange.
A cold light flashed in the cultivator’s eyes.
Before anyone could react,
"Bang!"
The man was sent flying several meters back, crashing heavily onto the ground.
The entire market fell silent.
Everyone stared in shock.
The cultivator slowly lowered his hand as if nothing had happened.
"Next." he said calmly.
The man on the ground coughed violently, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
His eyes were filled with disbelief.
He hadn’t even seen how the attack happened.
"You...!" he tried to get up, but a pressure suddenly descended on him.
It was overwhelming, as if a mountain had descended on him.
"Did you come to trade or to steal?." a cold voice rang out.
Chu Miao stepped forward slowly. Her gaze was indifferent as ever.
"I... I didn’t....I ..." the man stuttered.
"Don’t waste my time." Chu Miao interrupted.
Her spiritual pressure increased a bit causing the man’s face to turn pale instantly.
"I was wrong! I was wrong!" he shouted in panic.
"I won’t do it again! I promise." He sounded like a pig being slaughtered.
The people around watched in silence, but no one dared to speak.
Even the group that had sent the man forward to cause trouble felt their hearts tighten in fear.
This was not someone they could provoke casually.
Chu Miao looked at the man for a moment before withdrawing her pressure.
"Leave." she said.
She could tell that the man was there to test their limits, which was why she didn’t show mercy. Otherwise, others would learn from him and cause trouble everyday.
The man didn’t dare to stay any longer.
He scrambled to his feet and ran, not even daring to look back. Even his bag of crystal cores was left behind.
The tension in the market slowly eased.
The way people looked at Chu Miao’s group was different. Not just with hope but also with fear and respect.
"Not bad." Ye Xuan said as he walked up to Chu Miao.
"But you were still too soft-hearted. You should have taken him out." He added.
He didn’t bother lowering his voice when he said this. So, those close to him heard what he said.
This sent another chill of fear down their spine.
It also cemented their earlier guess. These people were not to be messed with.
Chu Miao glanced at him.
"Killing him would only cause unnecessary trouble."
Ye Xuan shrugged.
"As you wish."
From the side, Chu Hao chuckled.
"That guy probably won’t dare come within a hundred meters of this place again."
"That’s good. He was probably sent here to probe by the forces that control this place. However, we are here for charity not to compete for resources. So, their actions don’t matter." Chu Miao said with a shrug.
She then turned to the crowd and found that trading had resumed as if nothing had happened. However, the people looked more cautious than before.
In the corner, the group that had been observing earlier fell into silence.
"That wasn’t a normal superpower." one of them said quietly.
The leader narrowed his eyes.
His gaze lingered on Chu Miao and Ye Xuan.
I am not sure what it is but I have been hearing rumors recently about cultivators.
Maybe they are cultivators.
"What do we do now?" One of them asked.
The leader didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he looked at the bustling stall once more.
Then, a faint smile appeared on his lips.
"We will report this to the superiors."
