Lydia woke up in the servants’ quarters and, as usual, made her way to her mistress’ chambers to help her prepare for the day. But to her surprise when she arrived, her mistress was nowhere to be found, and the bed looked untouched, as though no one had laid in it the previous night.
Her eyes widened in panic as she hurried out of the room to
"One..." Lucian began, his voice growing more ominous with each count. The air in the room became suffocating, charged with his seething anger.
"Two..." He took a step closer, his stride slow but deliberate, like a predator closing in on its prey.
"Alright, alright, I’ll leave," Ave quickly interjected, sitting up nervously. "But on one condition—"
"Three," he growled, ignoring her entirely.
"If you agree to let me prove I can be a good wife and take care of you, I’ll leave. And if you just—"
"Four," he cut her off, now dangerously close to the bed.
"Why are you still counting and ignoring my negotiation?!" Ave blurted out, panicking slightly. "I’ve turned over a new leaf! Give me a chance, and you won’t regret—"
"Five." Lucian’s patience snapped, and he strode toward her in long, purposeful strides. Before he could reach her, Ave let out a scream and leapt off the bed with such speed that she nearly tripped over her own feet. Laughing wildly, she sprinted for the door, her voice echoing in the hallway.
"I’ll be back to convince you, my love!" she called out between laughs. "You’ll see how much I’ve changed, and soon enough, you’ll love me before you know it!"
Lucian stood in the middle of the chamber, muttering several curses under his breath, running his fingers through his hair in frustration as Ave’s voice faded down the corridor.
