The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master

Chapter 373: Utterly Shameless

Chapter 373: Utterly Shameless

Vera Xavier recalled that if Susan Caldwell hadn’t screamed, Aaron Cheney wouldn’t have been knocked out, and her own life wouldn’t have been hanging by a thread. ’There’s no way I’m letting this go! This score has to be settled, here and now!’

She then said coldly, "Susan Caldwell, haven’t you forgotten something?"

Susan Caldwell’s eyes darkened at her words. She cursed Vera Xavier in her heart. ’What a damn shame. Even that wasn’t enough to kill her. But it’s fine. I have other tricks up my sleeve.’

Susan Caldwell glanced at the pile of stones out of the corner of her eye, her hand unconsciously clenching into a fist.

The sudden intrusion of the robbers had cut their bet short. Now, looking at Vera Xavier’s expression, it was obvious she intended to settle the score.

’This Vera Xavier is unbelievably stupid,’ she thought. ’She doesn’t even know who I am, yet she dares to pick a fight with me. She must have a death wish. With my status in Veridia, anyone who sees me knows to show me some deference.’

Susan Caldwell suppressed her disdain, turning to look at Vera Xavier with a smile. "Of course I haven’t forgotten. It’s just that the expert team has already left, so there’s no one to appraise the Jade. How about this—it’s fate that we met here today, so let’s not spoil the mood. I’ll cut you some slack. We’ll call the bet a draw and be friends."

Vera Xavier thought Susan Caldwell had some serious nerve. ’How can she say something so shameless? Even an amateur could see that I have more Jade than her, and that it’s more valuable.’

She said coldly, "A draw? What part of this looks like a draw to you?"

At this, her gaze turned cold. "As for being friends, I’ve told you before. You’re not fit to be my friend."

Skylar Crowe shouted from her spot on the floor, "Don’t be so damn ungrateful! You should be thanking your lucky stars that Susan is willing to be your friend! And you dare to refuse? Do you have any idea how many people in Veridia are lining up hoping to be friends with Susan, and she turns them all down!"

She’d been shot in the leg and couldn’t walk. Susan Caldwell had tried to help her into a chair earlier, but she had screamed in pain at the slightest movement. So, she just stayed put on the floor, waiting for the ambulance.

Vera Xavier sneered. "What other people do has nothing to do with me."

She then looked at Susan Caldwell and asked, "So, how would you like to eat these stones? Should I find some seasoning for you? Soy sauce, or vinegar?"

A smile remained on Susan Caldwell’s face, but her eyes were full of displeasure. ’I’ve been so reasonable with Vera Xavier, but she still won’t take the hint and back off. She just doesn’t know what’s good for her!’

Susan Caldwell glanced at Alistair Forrest and his bodyguards standing behind Vera Xavier, then at Leo Wright, who was nursing an injured arm. In the current situation, she didn’t have the upper hand. Otherwise, she never would have swallowed her pride and said what she did to Vera Xavier just now.

She said flatly, "You shouldn’t burn your bridges. There’s no need to be so merciless."

Vera Xavier laughed. "Oh, I’m not being merciless. Not at all. If you kneel and beg me right now, I might just consider letting you off the hook."

Susan Caldwell trembled with rage. Those were the exact words she had used on Vera Xavier earlier. Having them thrown right back at her was a monumental slap in the face.

’All her life, she was used to people begging her, putting her on a pedestal. For her to beg someone else? That was impossible!’

Vera Xavier raised an eyebrow, a slight smile playing on her lips. "I’m actually a very reasonable person. I just treat people the way they treat me."
