Chapter 26 The Mystic Market
Chapter 26 The Mystic Market
"Sneeze root grass, henbane, green magic stone powder, pansy juice..." Tenor couldn't help but wonder, could this medicine be drunk?
However, considering the half-human physique, using this potion to stimulate the bloodline and enter the hunting ritual is indeed feasible.
The materials needed for the fourth-tier hunting ritual are all common herbs that can be purchased directly.
but....
"300 ml of blood from Aze's stomach... a pair of Night Demon eyes... the brain of a Shapeshifter..."
The ingredients for special potions are not commonly found.
Aze monsters are vampire creatures with shapeshifting abilities; Tenor has only heard of them in stories.
Night demons are a kind of nightmare.
I've only heard of the shapeshifter, Tenor, but I've never seen it.
Without exception, they are all very difficult to catch.
What's even harder to catch is the core material... Where can Tenor find a fourth-tier demon?
Ah, if only the Emerald Order's "messenger" were still around.
The most difficult thing is that the monsters corresponding to the first three materials are only difficult to catch, and none of them are monsters known for their strength, but demons are not easy to deal with, even if their rank is not high.
Their specializations cannot be described by rank—which high-ranking professional would dare say they are immune to the allure of banshees?
The renowned legendary mage and Grand Scholar Archmage of Ortizia died a thousand years ago during the defense of Ortizia, killed in a surprise attack by vampires summoned by the sorcerer Sylhani.
—The vampire was a low-level demon immune to high-level magic... Later, that demon was hacked to death by low-level adventurers who were urgently conscripted.
The ranks of demons are determined by how many ranks a professional has a chance of challenging them.
In reality, demons don't use the same hierarchy as mortals at all—Tenoll had to make mistakes during his first hunting ritual, but fortunately, there was no punishment for failing the ritual.
The Lizardmen's heritage only classifies demons by species. As a senior figure, he believes that the inherited memory's rating of demons is more reliable than the current "12-rank system".
If he were to have a championship duel with a "fourth-tier" demon, it would be hard to say who would live and who would die.
Sigh, let's collect the other main materials first, and if we have the chance, we can follow up on the demon clues!
Anyway, the devil sees him as a thorn in his side and will come knocking on his door sooner or later.
After tidying up, Tenor went downstairs to the bar and tossed a silver coin to Giovanni. "A glass of mead, and the rest is a tip."
"Simon hasn't been here in a long time," Giovanni said casually as he took the silver coin and mixed the drinks.
"He's busy and probably won't be back in Lagetia anytime soon," Tenor replied curtly, changing the subject, "Where can I go if I want to sell or buy materials from monsters?"
If you're lucky, you might be able to buy potion ingredients directly.
Giovanni put Simon's matter out of his mind, pushed his glass towards the customer, and said in a casual tone with a hint of dry humor:
"A group of poachers were having a gathering in the cemetery at 3 a.m., and the Black Rose Knights were watching them."
If you have any dark magic materials, you can sell them there—so the knight who captures you can get more credit.
"It's a magical material that can be exposed to light." Tenor picked up his cup and noted down the location of the first gathering, but that place was only suitable for gathering information.
Giovanni gave Tenor a deep look, finding a sense of superiority in his "intelligence," and said smugly, drawing out his words:
"If you don't know the 'Regular Customer' tavern across from the library, you can go directly to the Dark Street... You can trade magic materials there; all professions trade in the Dark Street."
"Now I understand." Tenor remained unmoved by the halfling's demeanor and behavior; he could only laugh when a dwarf was jumping around.
He finished his drink and went out to the Grand Library of Laghetti.
If you can buy materials or clues, promotion will be much easier.
Tenor collects the reward from the previous quest in the dead-end alley at the exit of the Black Rose Tavern.
[Mission: Solve Simon the Witch Hunter's Troubles]
[Difficulty: Dangerous]
[Reward: Power Belt]
Status: Completed
A short skirt made of some kind of leather appeared in his hand. This "belt" would only be called a belt on Thoreau; in human size, it would be a leather skirt.
Tenor fastened it around his waist and activated the Shadow Cloak to become invisible.
If he could sneak up on a high-level warrior's buttocks without them noticing, he could activate his power belt and deliver a powerful blow, leaving even the high-level warrior covered in bruises.
No matter the circumstances, gaining 10 seconds of Titan power is always a trump card.
If he had the Power Belt when fighting a Warhorn, he could smash it into a roaring monster in one blow.
His luxurious equipment was the reason he was invincible. What third-tier warrior could get so much good equipment?
The "Regular Customers" tavern is easy to find; it's not hidden by magic, it's right across from the library.
Once inside the tavern, a stealthy search will easily reveal that the back door leads directly to another block.
Numerous figures dressed in cloaks were setting up stalls or shopping among them, each with a disguised identity, making Tenor inconspicuous when he appeared.
He discovered that the block had no second exit, and all the shops were one-way, opening inwards.
However, you can still try to enter or leave this dark street by "flying over walls".
Tenor turned his gaze away from the shop selling magical creatures. He didn't think he needed an owl or a toad—if he did, why not just catch one?
He stopped in the bookstore and found that he could preview and borrow books, but all the titles were written in an unfamiliar language.
He opened a book to look at it, but his face was blank—not a single word was one he recognized.
There were books written in the Imperial language, but they were all basic popular science books. Tenor spent three silver coins to buy six of them, and then observed and inquired about the material stalls one by one, but didn't find anything for the time being.
As he was in trouble, a woman wearing a fox mask approached Tenor. "Sir, do you need the Aze Monster?" she whispered.
"If you have any, whether it's a clue or a live Aztec, I'll pay for it." Tenor was surprised to see the woman nod.
"Of course, please come with me if you need to." She led Tenor to a corner and into the messy room.
Tenor began to suspect something was amiss.
The woman in front of him suddenly lifted her robe, tore off her top, revealing her deformed and ugly body, and screamed, "Rape! Help!"
"Looking like that, how can you pull off a honey trap?" Tenor cursed inwardly.
Spending time with good people like Reginald and Simon almost made me forget that these locals are incredibly cunning!
Five burly men rushed in from all directions, one blocking the door, one blocking the window, and three surrounding and attacking.
Ternor's figure suddenly vanished, leaving the man who was about to draw his sword to threaten him empty-handed.
"Wizard!" he shouted warily, then was slapped to the ground, and Tenor's concealed figure was revealed by the attack.
As the next man swung his knife, he vanished again, then reappeared behind the man, kicked him toward the woman, and knocked down the swindler by the window with a stick, while also knocking over another swordsman.
The younger man blocking the door, upon seeing this, decisively dropped his weapon, raised his hands, and knelt on the ground, crying, "Don't kill me! I surrender!"
"So, now you can tell me, do you actually have Aze or not?" Tenor kicked away the groaning liar at his feet, his cold gaze etched like a knife onto the little man's panicked face.
Sigh, it's hard to have any hope for these street swindlers. Tenor had already started walking toward the door.
Unable to withstand the pressure, the man, sweating profusely, pointed at the woman and exclaimed, "That's her!"
Tenor stopped abruptly, turning around with a mixture of disbelief and skepticism.
A crossbow bolt flew through the air, but he ducked and dodged it.
"Still not giving up?"
Annoyed, Tenor was about to transform when he saw the ugly woman turn pale with fright and breathe out a ball of fire from her nose. The ball of fire instantly turned into a tongue of fire and attacked.
But Tenor easily blocked it by taking out the Tranquil Shield that was tucked under his left armpit.
The woman's body suddenly collapsed, leaving her only in her clothes. A firefly flew out quickly from within, attempting to escape through the window.
Tenor strode forward, raised his shield, and slammed it to the ground.
But then fireflies transformed into streaks of light and burrowed into the body of the injured man crawling with maggots by the window. In the blink of an eye, the man turned into a palm-sized rat and fled desperately into a crack in the wall.
Another crossbowman from the shadows fired an arrow, but it did nothing to stop Tenor from catching up with the rat and narrowly stepping on its tail.
The mouse shrieked and transformed back into human form, its rear end being firmly stomped on by Tenor.
The firefly broke free from the possessor and tried to fly away.
Upon seeing Tenor raise his shield to strike again, it immediately transformed into an ugly human form and kowtowed, begging for mercy.
"I didn't mean to hurt you!"
"That was intentional." Tenor remained unmoved and swung his shield, knocking it unconscious.
Tenor concealed himself and chased the enemy deep into the room, knocking the crossbowman unconscious.
Then she returned and appeared before the terrified, surrendering man.
"Has it been drinking blood today?" Tenor asked coldly, the stick intentionally or unintentionally rubbing against the man.
Seeing that this god of war was invincible, and probably of high rank, the coward was already completely flustered and naturally confessed:
"Sir, she...it just used it in the first half of the night."
"Very well, you stay here and watch. I'll be right back. If anyone is missing, or if you disappear... I guarantee you won't see the sunrise." Tenor's cold threat terrified the coward into agreeing repeatedly.
He disappeared without a trace, went to buy a graduated test tube and a medicine bottle, and then returned.
Using the dagger found at the scene, he disemboweled Aze, easily filling half a liter, with the extra as a precaution.
After doing all that, he tied up the swindlers, labeled them with crimes, and escorted them to the sheriff, who was eager for credit and promotion. The two sides reached a win-win cooperation.
Unable to glean any clues about shapeshifters or night ghosts at the cemetery gathering, he wandered the market until dawn and, for 5 gold coins, snagged a night ghost's eye from a suspicious person rushing to make a deal.
He was considered suspicious because he treated the Night Demon Eyes, worth 12 gold coins, like a hot potato, and sold them for only 5—Tenoor didn't believe his bargaining skills were that good.
He had only tentatively offered a large discount when the other party agreed without even haggling. Something seemed off about that.
