Chapter 63 Warriors
Chapter 63 Warriors
Things happened too fast!
Vijay didn't even have time to say a word of warning.
But before the worry could fully arise, they saw Delanvila's muscles suddenly swell, and he stretched out his right arm, using the armor at his elbow to meet the crocodile's massive steel tail.
The crocodile's tail lashed out at his arm.
That's it. Physical strength can't compare to finely crafted armor. Delanvila was thrown two steps to the side by the tremendous force, his body swaying, but he seemed to have suffered no injury whatsoever.
Before the crocodile could turn the tables, Delanvila struck first, swiftly bringing down the knife!
"Thud!" The sharp long knife chopped off the crocodile's head.
Crimson blood spurted high into the air, staining the entire puddle red.
With a bloody crocodile head in one hand and a long knife in the other, Delanvila strode back to the front of the group, head held high and chest puffed out, boasting triumphantly to everyone about his bravery.
Sada and his soldiers immediately cheered loudly, praising Delanvila's invincible bravery.
Vijay also stepped forward to congratulate him, saying with a smile, "May Indra bless you, sir! Your bravery is truly admirable!"
But in his heart, he was rather unconvinced.
This crocodile may look fierce, but it has obvious weaknesses. Even if it weren't Delanvila who took action, he himself could subdue it by controlling the distance and attacking its vulnerable abdomen, eyes, and throat.
While I may not be as clean and efficient as Delanvila, I can definitely handle things without getting hurt.
Just as Vijay was outwardly congratulating him but inwardly indifferent, he inadvertently glanced at Bim beside him out of the corner of his eye.
That one glance made him freeze instantly, and his heart sank.
On Bim's face, there was no sign of relief at seeing the beast killed; instead, his face was filled with boundless fear. His complexion was ashen, and his eyes held a panic that suggested he was on the verge of despair.
He stared blankly at Vijay, his gaze carrying an extreme warning.
Vijay's soul seemed to have been stabbed hard, and he instantly came to his senses!
"Master! Run!" Bim roared with all his might, his voice low and urgent, "Run!"
This stern reminder struck Vijay's mind like a bolt of lightning.
He understood instantly!
This is a wild and desolate place, not an ordinary wilderness!
Delanvila's loud laughter and clamor, which echoed throughout the swamp, was not courageous at all, but rather a death wish!
Such a huge commotion will surely attract other terrifying things in the vicinity!
"Get out of here immediately!" Vijay's expression changed drastically. No longer caring about saving face for Delanville, he roared the order, "Hurry! Move fast! We must leave right now!"
Delanvila wasn't quite done having fun yet, and was even thinking of opening a pitcher of ice water to celebrate, but upon hearing this, the smile on his face instantly froze, revealing obvious displeasure.
He felt that with the invincible bravery he had just displayed, even if there were ten or eight more crocodiles like this, he could easily kill them and protect the entire caravan.
Moreover, his soldiers were all strong and capable; even if they were surrounded by twenty or thirty crocodiles, they would only become stepping stones for them to demonstrate their bravery.
Vijay had made it clear beforehand that once they entered this wild land, everyone had to obey his orders.
Even though Delanvila was resentful, he dared not openly defy him.
He could only angrily drop the crocodile head in his hand, not even having time to sort out his spoils, and hurriedly followed the group forward with a frustrated expression.
At this moment, Bim was in a state of extreme panic, desperately pulling the oxcart forward, wanting to get away from this place of trouble as soon as possible.
"Brahma above, Bim?" Vijay asked urgently as he ran, "Why are you so afraid?"
"Master!" Bim's teeth chattered, his voice hoarse, "But what we just killed was a dragon's 'sentinel'..."
Vijay was startled.
Dragon? Sentinel?
Vijay couldn't connect the two words smoothly, and just as he was about to ask further,
"roar!"
A terrifying roar, powerful enough to shake the heavens and split the earth, erupted from the spot where they had already fled!
The sound was not like the roar of a wild beast, but rather like the low murmur of a divine ox from ancient times.
A terrifying pressure, surpassing all living beings, swept across the entire land like a tsunami.
All the livestock instantly collapsed to the ground, trembling.
All the team members were pale, their legs were weak, and they could barely stand.
Vijay stood frozen in place, his body ice-cold and his scalp tingling.
He finally understood where Bim's extreme fear came from.
The dragon's deafening roar, like muffled thunder rolling across the entire swamp, lingered for a long time.
The horses and camels in the caravan were utterly terrified, their limbs went weak, and they could barely stand. Some even collapsed onto the muddy ground, emitting terrified neighs incessantly.
If it weren't for the servants driving the carriages holding on tightly to the reins and whispering soothing words, the livestock would have scattered and run away long ago, completely breaking up the entire procession.
Just hearing the voice was enough to extinguish any thought of resistance in the crowd.
Only now did everyone turn their awe-inspiring gaze to Vijay, for it was his warning that had allowed them to avoid this terrifying monster.
Vijay immediately stood at the front of the line, raised his hand to signal everyone to be quiet, and used his calm voice to soothe everyone's panicked emotions.
His gaze inadvertently swept over Delanvila, his eyes carrying a hint of calm dissuasion.
But Delan Villa, so proud, immediately sensed a hint of disdain in Vijay's eyes.
Since leaving the city-states shrouded by Brahma and stepping into this wild land, he seemed to have broken free from some kind of constraint, developing an almost fanatical confidence in his own martial prowess.
He puffed out his chest, strode forward, and said arrogantly and confidently, "What kind of divine beast is this? It's just a monstrous creature hiding in the mud! It's scared like this by a single roar? Get out of my way, I'm going to go over there right now and chop it in half with one stroke!"
Vijay was startled.
Delanvila is the strongest fighter in the entire caravan and the core pillar of the escort team. We absolutely cannot let him die so impulsively.
He quickly stepped forward, grasped Delanvila's arm, and said in an extremely respectful tone, "Lord Delanvila, by Indra's grace, no one dares to doubt your bravery, and the entire caravan relies on your protection. But now, our primary task is to ensure the safety of the caravan and leave this dangerous place as soon as possible. We absolutely cannot allow any further trouble to occur here!"
Although Delanvila was arrogant, he was not entirely brainless. He remained silent for a moment, seemingly recalling his master's instructions. He suppressed his fighting spirit and dissatisfaction, snorted fiercely, and no longer mentioned killing the ferocious beast.
"Go! Keep going!" Vijay gave the order, and the entire team dared not delay for a moment. They once again braved the thick fog, trudging forward into the unknown.
But the further they went, the thicker the fog became, instead of dissipating.
The grayish-white mist clung to my face and clothes, cold and damp, and my vision was reduced to just a few steps, making it almost impossible to see the road ahead.
What's even more unsettling is that the protective aura currently cast upon everyone has become extremely weak, almost completely dissipating.
The faint, fishy, and numbing sensation in the air returned quietly once more.
Everyone gritted their teeth, relentlessly driving the oxen and horses, firmly controlling the direction of the vehicle, and closely following Vijay.
Every step had to be taken with utmost care, keeping the livestock steady while preventing the wheels and hooves from sinking into the soft mud and swamps hidden under the decaying leaves.
I don't know how long we've been struggling like this.
The sunlight was completely blocked by the thick fog, and time became blurred.
Everyone was thirsty and exhausted, their legs felt like lead, the coachman's arms ached and trembled, and the guards had dull eyes, having long lost their former energy.
Finally, Delanvila could no longer bear to watch. She strode over to Vijay and said in a deep voice, "Patriarch, let everyone stop and rest for a while. If we continue like this, the people and livestock will collapse from exhaustion before any ferocious beasts even attack."
His words were like a piercing through a thin layer of paper.
A chorus of agreement immediately rose from the ranks.
"Yes, Master, we really can't walk any further..."
"I've been walking since this morning without a drop of water or a bite to eat..."
"The livestock are almost done for; they'll die of exhaustion if they keep running!"
Vijay turned his head and saw that everyone's face was full of exhaustion, and beneath that exhaustion, there was a hint of dissatisfaction and resentment.
But he can't stop.
The fact that Bim gave him no indication that he could rest meant that this place was still Jedi.
"No, we can't rest!" Vijay's tone was firm and decisive, leaving no room for negotiation.
Delanvila frowned and spoke again, this time deliberately taking the team's perspective, his tone carrying a hint of pressure: "Even if the people can hold on, at least give the horses some water and a few salt cakes, right? If the livestock collapse, who will tow the carts?"
As he spoke, he glanced at Mu, hoping that Mu would put in a good word for him, but Mu simply kept his eyes closed and hovered in mid-air, seemingly oblivious to the argument before him and completely unmoved.
Vijay waved his hand slightly, his attitude remaining firm: "No need, keep moving forward."
Seeing that her suggestion was rejected again, Delanvila's face darkened instantly. She glared angrily at Vijay, but in the end, she did not dare to openly disobey the order. She could only turn her hand away and return to her seat in a sullen mood, her dissatisfaction almost overflowing.
The group continued in silence once again, the atmosphere extremely tense.
As darkness fell, the thick fog grew even colder and more biting.
Suddenly, a cry of alarm came from the back of the group: "Watch out!"
Exhausted, a driver lost his footing and stepped into the soft mud.
The oxcart he was driving instantly lost control, veered to the side, and half of its wheels sank deep into the mud beside it. Those around him reacted quickly and desperately pulled on the cart shaft, preventing it from overturning into the swamp along with the driver.
But it was all too late!
Half of the wheel and the cargo strapped to the vehicle were already deeply mired in the sticky mud.
"Quick! Pull it out!"
Delanvila was the first to rush forward, using his strength to firmly stabilize the vehicle.
Even so, the goods on the truck continued to slide off the tilted vehicle one after another, falling into the mud and water and being quickly swallowed up.
The servants around rushed over to help. Seven or eight people worked together, shouting and pulling, and with great effort, they finally managed to drag the oxcart out of the mud.
The truck was pulled up, but most of the scattered goods were lost.
Delanvila, covered in mud, stood up and, unable to hold back any longer, earnestly pleaded with Vijay again, "Master, everyone has truly reached their limit. Let's take this opportunity to stop, light a fire, rest a bit, boil some water, and have a hot meal!"
This time, Vijay also noticed that everyone's eyes were filled with undisguised exhaustion, and beneath that exhaustion lay suppressed anger.
He was about to speak, but it was too late.
Several impatient team members couldn't resist taking out the flints they carried with them and frantically striking them together, trying to quickly light a campfire to dispel the cold and fear.
But then a strange thing happened.
Sparks flew everywhere, but they couldn't gather together at all.
"Huh? What's going on?" The man was stunned for a moment, his face full of confusion.
The noise startled those around them.
The others assumed his flint had become damp and malfunctioned, so they all pulled out their spare flints: "Use mine! Mine is dry!"
But after several people tried, none of them were able to successfully light the flame.
All flints can produce sparks, but as soon as they come into contact with air, the sparks are extinguished instantly.
Seeing this, Vijay understood; Bim had told him this in secret before!
In this misty swamp beyond the shroud of Brahma, even the gaze of the fire god Agni could not penetrate the mist!
Flames can only be lit in designated safe areas.
Watching everyone try again and again, only to fail helplessly, their faces filled with despair and panic, Vijay slowly straightened up, sighed softly, and his voice clearly echoed throughout the room: "Don't try anymore, you can't light it."
"Don't forget, this is a land beyond the gaze of Brahma."
"Here, even the god of fire must yield to the power of the wilderness!"
"Pack your things and keep going with me immediately. We must find a safe place to rest before it gets completely dark!"
At this point, Vijay looked around and said, emphasizing each word, "Otherwise, nobody will survive tonight!"
These words were like ice water poured over their heads, instantly sobering everyone up.
The slight dissatisfaction was immediately suppressed by a deeper fear.
No one dared to say another word. One by one, they silently picked up the scattered items, tidied up the vehicle, and followed Vijay's footsteps again. They were like a swarm of headless flies, wandering aimlessly in the boundless fog.
Just as everyone was on the verge of collapse and exhausted to the limit, Bim, who was walking at the front, suddenly stopped.
His eyes suddenly lit up.
"Found it!" Bim whispered, his voice filled with unbelievable joy, in a voice only Vijay could hear.
He looked up at Vijay, then stretched out his hand, trembling, and pointed straight ahead.
Vijay looked in the direction he was pointing and saw a place completely different from the surrounding desolate swamp.
