Chapter 226 Summer Vacation
Chapter 226 Summer Vacation
"Cicadas chirping merrily in the trees. It was a hot day. Qin Xiaochuan, carrying a satchel, walked briskly back to his dormitory."
"Hey!" Suddenly someone tapped him on the shoulder from behind. When he turned around, he saw Guo Shiyi holding an umbrella and looking at him with a smile.
"What are you doing here?" Seeing her smiling face, Qin Xiaochuan no longer felt hot, so he reached out and took the umbrella from her hand to hold it for her.
A flash of joy crossed Guo Shiyi's face, but she quickly regained her composure and said, "Of course I came to see you."
"What do you want from me?"
"Can't I come to see you if there's nothing wrong?" Guo Shiyi pouted.
"Of course you can," Qin Xiaochuan said with a chuckle.
"Have you finished all your exams?" she asked.
He shook his head and said, "I have another exam on the history of mythology tomorrow. After that, I'll be free."
"Buy me ice cream!" she said.
"Let's go!" Qin Xiaochuan replied without hesitation.
The two bought an ice cream each at a shop on the east side of the campus, and then sat down to chat at a table by the floor-to-ceiling window.
"What are your plans for summer vacation?" Guo Shiyi asked.
"Probably not. It's so hot, I just want to stay home."
"My mom is going to do a business trip out of town this summer, so there will be no one at home. I'm planning to go back to Wudang Mountain for a few days. It's cool and quiet there, a perfect place to escape the summer heat. Do you want to come with me?"
"Great!" Qin Xiaochuan nodded quickly and said, "I've heard you talk about your master a lot before, and now I'm finally going to meet him."
"Hehe." Guo Shiyi smiled but didn't say anything.
"By the way, what does your mom do? Why does she need to go to other places?" He took a bite of ice cream and asked curiously.
"She's an archaeologist, so she often has to travel to other places."
"Really? Then I'll be working with her from now on. If I can't find a job, I'll go live with her. You'll have to put in a good word for me then," Qin Xiaochuan joked.
"Hmph, then we'll see how you perform," Guo Shiyi said proudly.
"How should I perform?"
She blinked and said, "Hmm... I need to think about it carefully and see what kind of opportunity would be suitable for you."
-----------------
After finishing his exams the next day, Qin Xiaochuan officially began his summer vacation. As agreed with Guo Shiyi, he went home first and stayed there for a week before rushing to the high-speed rail station to meet up with Guo Shiyi. Then the two of them took the high-speed rail to Wudang Mountain together.
After getting off the high-speed train, the two took a taxi to the foot of Wudang Mountain, and then took a tourist bus to the mountainside, where Guo Shiyi pulled Qin Xiaochuan off the bus.
Standing halfway up the mountain, the blue sky and white clouds are unobstructed, and the scenery below can be seen in its entirety. Various strange peaks and rocks are in all shapes and sizes; the deep valleys and secluded forests are tranquil; the chirping of insects and birds is endless; the flying springs and waterfalls are magnificent. Everywhere you look is a beautiful scene, and everything you encounter is delightful.
"This environment is so comfortable!" Qin Xiaochuan put his suitcase down by the roadside, stretched out his arms, and earnestly felt the coolness of the mountains. The natural atmosphere made him feel comfortable.
While fiddling with her phone, Guo Shiyi said, "Right? I absolutely love the scenery here. I'll take you to explore the scenic area tomorrow; I guarantee you won't regret it."
"That's great!" Qin Xiaochuan said happily, then asked, "What are we doing here now? Aren't we going to the Taoist temple on the mountain?"
Guo Shiyi said, "Those Taoist temples on the mountain are open to tourists and are not places for spiritual practice at all. My master and the others are people who practice asceticism, so naturally they would choose a quiet place. I'll make a call now and ask Jiang Han to come and pick us up." As she spoke, she made a call.
A short while later, Jiang Han arrived in front of the two of them in a blue pickup truck.
"Jiang Han!" Guo Shiyi waved happily from a distance.
The last time Qin Xiaochuan saw Jiang Han was at Guo Shiyi's birthday party. Today, he changed his usual shrewd and capable demon hunter image, wearing a dark blue Taoist robe and glasses, giving him the look of a hermit in the mountains.
"Call me senior brother!" After getting out of the car, Jiang Han rolled her eyes at Guo Shiyi helplessly, then looked at Qin Xiaochuan and said, "Welcome to Wudang Mountain. Life in the mountains is simple and austere, so don't blame me for not being hospitable."
"Senior Brother Jiang, what are you saying? It was clearly me who came to disturb your peaceful cultivation," Qin Xiaochuan said politely.
"Let's go." Jiang Han said as she put the two of their suitcases in the back of the pickup truck and then drove them along the mountain road into the deep mountains.
The cicadas chirped and the birds twittered. The pickup truck, like a small boat, sailed through a green ocean. A gentle breeze constantly flowed into the car through the windows, giving people a relaxed and pleasant feeling.
The pickup truck carried the three of them until it stopped in a parking lot. Next, there was a mountain path, and finally Jiang Han led the two to a Taoist temple. The temple's blue brick walls were mottled and looked quite old.
"This is where I used to spend my winter and summer vacations." As soon as she entered the Taoist temple, Guo Shiyi excitedly introduced it to Qin Xiaochuan, and then pointed to a few houses on the west side and said, "That's where I used to live."
Just as Qin Xiaochuan was about to speak, he saw Guo Shiyi waving and calling out to a woman dressed as a Taoist nun from afar, "Auntie."
The nun turned around at the sound of the voice. Qin Xiaochuan glanced at her and saw that she was a woman who looked to be in her thirties. Her features bore a resemblance to Guo Shiyi's. Upon seeing Guo Shiyi, she was overjoyed and quickly walked over, smiling as she said, "Knowing you were coming today, I've been waiting here since early morning. I'm so glad you've finally arrived! It's been so long! Let me see if you've become even more beautiful!"
"Of course!" Guo Shiyi hugged the Taoist nun's arm and said coquettishly, "Auntie, I missed you so much."
The Taoist nun, Jiang Zhujun, who was also Guo Shiyi's aunt, laughed and said, "Hmph, I don't believe you still have time to think about me?" As she spoke, she glanced sideways at Qin Xiaochuan and said, "Why don't you introduce me to someone?"
"Hehe~" Guo Shiyi made a face at her and said, "He's Qin Xiaochuan, whom I mentioned to you before."
Qin Xiaochuan quickly and politely said, "Hello, Auntie."
Jiang Zhujun nodded and said, "Since you're here, stay for a few days." Then, with a stern face, she added, "Let me tell you something: if you ever dare to bully my Shiyi, I won't let you off the hook."
"Auntie, what nonsense are you talking about?" Guo Shiyi quickly and shyly took Jiang Zhujun's hand and walked towards the room on the west side.
Just as Qin Xiaochuan was looking on with a bewildered expression, unsure of what to say, Jiang Han said to him, "It's almost lunchtime. I'll help you put your luggage away first, and then I'll take you to eat." With that, she led Qin Xiaochuan toward the house on the east side.
On the way to the room, Jiang Han suddenly said to him mysteriously, "After you finish eating, you can go back to your room for a nap, or you can take a walk around the area. If there's no need, don't go to the back mountain alone."
"Why?" Qin Xiaochuan asked curiously.
Jiang Han adjusted her glasses and said, "It's not for any particular reason. Just listen to me. We've known each other for quite a while now. Do you think I would ever betray you?"
Although Qin Xiaochuan was puzzled, he had no choice but to refrain from asking further when he saw that the other party was unwilling to say more.
Soon the two arrived at a room in the Taoist temple. The room was furnished with only a wooden bed, a wooden cabinet, a table, and a chair. Other daily necessities were also simple and plain, with almost no electrical appliances.
"This is your accommodation. It's a secluded place in the mountains, so the rooms are simple. I hope you can adapt. There's a public bathroom over there if you want to take a shower at night," Jiang Han said, pointing to a corner of the room.
"Brother Jiang, what are you saying? It's more than I could ask for to live a peaceful and carefree life here for a few days. How could I not be used to it?" He said as he put his suitcase in the room.
After Jiang Han saw that he had put down his luggage, she took him to wash his face under a tap and then took him to the dining hall for lunch.
