Chapter 636: The Chosen Day 9 [Test of Pride]

Dylan wasted no time. The metallic limbs that had replaced his flesh gave him speed and precision far beyond what he’d had before.

He lunged forward, both swords in hand, their energies clashing in the air as he charged straight at Manu.

Manu, unfazed by the oncoming attack, unleashed the full force of his spiritual, aura, and magical pressure.

The air around him thickened, becoming oppressive and heavy, the kind of power that could crush even gold rankers at the peak into submission.

But to Manu’s surprise, instead of bearing down on Dylan, the immense force spiraled upward, sucked into the storming heavens above.

Manu scowled, his golden eyes narrowing in irritation.

He had forgotten the crucial rule of the Heaven’s Tribulation: any power he unleashed would be claimed by the heavens to fuel their wrath.

Above, the sky churned, black clouds roiling as if alive. Lightning danced within them, its brilliance more blinding than before.

Manu gritted his teeth. He was not just fighting Dylan; he was facing the wrath of the heavens themselves.

The first strike of Pride had come. As it was known as the first principal sin.

Even more, one of his Dantains responded to it as it was fueled by the sin of pride as its cardinal sin.

Instantly, it shut down.

This was why this trial was a big huddle. One’s Dantain depending on the sin that was striking and its affliation with it would shut down. Instantly becoming black and empty.

Meaning that the individual had to face the heavens Tribulation with no power whatsoever.

However, Manu had three Dantains and the pillar under him that acted as a supplementary power source.

A tremendous bolt of lightning descended, but it was no ordinary strike. As it neared the platform, it twisted and warped, forming into a radiant, towering figure. It was humanoid in shape but made entirely of light, its eyes gleaming with condescension and disdain. The giant creature, dressed in ancient attire, like the Chinese monarchs of Chiron’s former life, looked down at Manu, its expression dripping with superiority, as though it were a deity gazing at an insignificant insect.

"You, who dare to rise, know your place," the creature’s voice echoed, its tone cold and thunderous.

Manu’s sneer deepened. "Pride incarnate," he muttered. "How fitting."

But before he could engage the lightning construct, Dylan was upon him.

For a moment, there was nothing but silence.

Dylan, standing amidst the coils of dead serpents, froze. His swords hummed softly in the eerie quiet as he stared at the scene before him. Could it be over? Had the mighty Manu Madayaki finally fallen?

But then, the runes etched into the platform’s surface began to glow. A soft hum at first, then a crescendo of energy. The power focused beneath the creature’s foot, converging at the exact spot where Manu was crushed.

A low rumble broke the silence. It grew louder, a primal sound of fury and defiance, building into a deafening roar that shattered the stillness.

The massive foot of the lightning construct trembled. Sparks erupted violently as Manu’s hands shot out from beneath it, gripping the radiant limb with unyielding force.

Manu’s voice, guttural and filled with venom, echoed across the platform. "You think YOUR pride is greater than MINE? I am Manu Madayaki! You will not step on me!"

The creature’s prideful aura surged, its energy burning through Manu’s veins. His skin sizzled, his muscles tore, and his body was consumed by the lightning’s wrath. The pain was unimaginable, but Manu refused to yield.

"This baptism of pride... is nothing to me!" he roared, his golden eyes blazing.

With an animalistic growl, Manu pushed against the foot. The lightning construct struggled to keep him pinned, its condescending glare unwavering, but it faltered. Sparks raged as the runes on the platform pulsed, pouring energy into Manu, feeding his defiance.

And then, in a moment of sheer audacity, Manu opened his mouth. His jaws unhinged like a serpent’s, revealing sharp, gleaming teeth. With a feral snarl, he *bit into the foot*.

The heavens seemed to scream in rage. The lightning surged, crackling furiously, but Manu didn’t stop. His teeth sank deeper into the radiant flesh, and with every bite, he tore pieces of the sin away.

"You call yourself Pride?" Manu sneered, spitting sparks from his mouth. "Let me show you the meaning of TRUE DEFIANCE!"

His hands clawed into the construct’s foot, ripping apart the energy that formed it. The light dimmed, fractures spreading through the creature like cracks in glass. Each piece he tore away dissolved into nothingness, consumed by Manu’s unyielding will.

The construct’s humanoid form flickered, its once-condescending gaze now twisted in disbelief. It tried to pull back, but Manu’s grip was unrelenting.

"This is the sin you bring against me?" Manu bellowed, his voice shaking the storming sky. "Your pride is nothing but a farce!"

With one final, ferocious bite, Manu ripped the foot clean off. The massive construct staggered back, its balance faltering as it let out a screech of agony. The dismembered piece of lightning dissolved into stray sparks, absorbed into the platform’s runes and then into Manu himself.

Manu stood tall, his body battered and torn, yet still defiant. His lips curled into a wicked grin as he gazed at the now limping figure of Pride.

"Come on then," he spat, spreading his arms wide. "If this is the best the heavens can muster, I suggest they find a new gods..."

But it was not over. After all, this was just one of seven sins...
